Silver birch is one of our most popular tree saplings.  It is a British native, suited to all parts of the UK although Downy Birch tends to be the birch of choice in Scotland where the soils and climate are wetter. They are slender trees often planted quite close together in groups.  The leaves turn a very bright yellow in autumn and their striking white bark with black horizontal lines is a most attractive feature.

Silver birch trees prefer a sunny, open situation and moist, well-drained soil, though they are still ok on dry soil.  They are quite wildlife friendly – aphids feed on the leaves and that attracts a variety of other wildlife, and they have catkins in spring.

A copse of silver birch is a wonderful addition to a large garden or either a conservation or productive woodland and these saplings are very popular with farmer customers as well as home gardeners.   If you are planning on growing Silver birch for timber in the future, please speak to us before ordering because we have “improved” stock grown from specially selected “plus” trees and we can offer those as well as trees grown from wild, local provenance seed.

UK Mainland (excluding Scottish Highlands and Islands)

Bare root plants smaller than 100cm and 2L and 5L pots: the delivery charge is £7.99 incl VAT, and you get free delivery on orders over £100.

Bare root plants of 100cm - 120cm: the delivery charge is £14.99 incl VAT, and you get free delivery on orders over £300.

Bare root plants over 120cm, plants in pots over 5L, and all root ball plants: we despatch these on pallets (due to their size and weight), so we charge £59.99 incl VAT, and it's free on orders over £350 (irrespective of how many pallets are required).

Scottish Highlands

Bare root plants smaller than 100cm and 2L and 5L pots: the delivery charge is £14.99 incl VAT, and you get free delivery on orders over £150.

Bare root plants of 100cm - 120cm: the delivery charge is £29.99 incl VAT, and you get free delivery on orders over £300.

Bare root plants over 120cm, plants in pots over 5L, and all root ball plants: we despatch these on pallets (due to their size and weight), so we charge £112.99 incl VAT.

Do I need to be at home?

All deliveries will be sent with “no signature required” so you do not need to be at home on the day of delivery. For convenience on pallet deliveries, we will phone or email you on the day we despatch so you can, if you wish, be there (or arrange for someone to be there) to receive the delivery and unpack the plants.  If no one is there, the pallet will be left in a safe place (but cannot be moved over gravel or grass).

Returns

We are rarely asked to accept a return.  We can facilitate returns by collecting the parcel/s or palletised plants from you (in their original packaging), but we do not refund the delivery charge or the cost of the carrier collection and redelivery back to us.  If you wish to return an order, please contact us and we will explain the process in more detail.
