12 Month Guarantee

At Hedge Nursery Ltd we are uncompromising in our commitment to quality.  For over 15 years we have been supplying the UK with top quality hedging plants and our track record is evident in our almost 5,000 Feefo reviews scoring 4.8 out of 5.0 and Trust Pilot rating of Excellent.

We realise that no-one wants to have to make a guarantee claim because no-one wants to have to replant to replace failures, so we have a lot of advice on our website to ensure that you do not have any issues with the success of the plants - please do read the advice on storage, heeling in, planting and after care. Sadly we have had instances of people making guarantee claims where they clearly have not looked after the plants, so we've tried to strike the right balance in our guarantee wording between not making the wording full of wriggle room for us to avoid claims, whilst also ensuring that customers are encouraged to plant properly and then look after the hedge properly.  That's all we ask!

If you notice a problem when your plants first arrive

If the plants we deliver do not match your order, something was omitted from your delivery, items are damaged, defective or delivered in the wrong quantity, we will put this right.  You must notify us in writing by email to hello@hedgenursery.co.uk within 5 working days of receipt of your delivery.  We will need to see photos of the damaged items and if we ask you to return them, you will need to use the original packaging or suitable alternative packaging.   We can arrange a parcel collection for you.

Please bear in mind that all plants vary naturally in shape and size, and the photos and descriptions on our website are for guidance only.

Pot Grown plants and Instant Hedging Troughs

The roots of these plants are intact when they are delivered to you so providing they are properly planted, the success rate should be extremely high though occasionally the odd one will fail due to a whole range of issues outside of our control.  We fully guarantee all of our pot grown and instant hedging.

Cell grown plants

We supply a lot of cell grown plants to home gardeners where each plant is planted carefully, but we also supply to foresters, farmers and landowners where large quantities are planted quickly and there is no opportunity to water them if there is insuffcient rainfall, rabbits and deer can be prevelant and there can be any number of other factors affecting the success rate. Because they are small plants with good root structures that are undamaged when delivered to you, the success rate is very high, but we do not guarantee 100% because of the potential failure if they are planted out into the landscape.  We can't remember the last time a home gardener had a success rate issue with cell grown plants but if it was to happen, we would be very sympathetic and do our utmost to give full satisfaction.

Root balls and bare roots

The roots of these plants are cut when they are lifted from the fields they have been growing in so the success rate is not 100%. The commonly accepted "industry standard" failure rate on bare roots is 10% but that is usually lower with small deciduous plants and a bit higher with evergreens and taller plants.  Root balls are very successful but there can be an occasional failure. The earlier in the season (November to March or early April) you plant the higher the success rate will be.  Late season planting is riskier on all bare root and root balls but particularly evergreens and taller plants because they have less time to establish before their big Spring growth spurt.

Within 12 months of the purchase of bare root or root ball plants from us, we will replace failures with equivalent plants immediately if the stock is available or in the following season (for root balls that's October to April and for bare root plants it's November to March) at the production cost of the plants plus a delivery charge - so we do not profit from supplying you with replacements.

We do not replace bare root or root ball plants free of charge because there are so many factors completely outside of our control - the quality of the soil, the weather conditions when you planted, the weather conditions soon after planting, competition from weeds, any diseases present in the soil or nearby or brought on by humid weather, summer drought conditions and the amount and regularity of watering that you undertook etc.

To request replacements plants "at cost, please contact us on the phone number shown at the top of the website because we will need to place a special order for you.  We will need to see some photos of the plants that have failed and some evidence of the quantity of plants affected.

Advice before you make a Guarantee Claim

You can reassure yourself that plants are alive by doing a scratch test – just scrape away some of the bark with a fingernail and if the surface under the bark is green, then the plant is alive.  Struggling plants can be revived by making sure all weeds are cleared away and the plants are thoroughly watered regularly. Trimming the top and side growth off struggling plants, helps them conserve energy whilst they form stronger roots. Competition from weeds and lack of moisture or the alternative of waterlogging, are the most likely causes of plant failure.
