Native (one of very few evergreen native species)

One of the best hedging species for shade
Also good in damp soils and at the coast
An easy way to add some evergreen cover into a mixed native hedge
Livestock safe (can be used as livestock feed) but not recommended near horse paddocks
Holly makes a fantastic single species hedge (or a component of a mixed hedge) but these plants can also be grown as individual trees either in a woodland setting or a garden

Probably the second most common hedging plant in the UK (after Hawthorn), and suitable for all sites other than waterlogged
Profuse flowering very early in spring, and extremely wildlife-friendly
Native and non-toxic to livestock, but do not use near horses
Prickly
Good for hedging from 1m up to 10m, with an average growth rate
 If you are claiming a farm grant, you must use the 45/60cm 2-year-old plants, planted at 6 per metre (grant rules)
All our Blackthorn plants are grown in Britain
We have Blackthorn as bare root plants in the dormant season (November to April), and cell-grown and pot-grown plants all year round
