Our RHS Premium Fagus sylvatica 'Purpurea' (Purple Beech) is a large and fast-growing deciduous native plant with a broad spreading crown. Cooper beech is grown for its superb foliage of delicate, elliptic, fluttery leaves with wavy edges. It has stunning deep purple leaves, which shine with life in spring/summer and turn a beautiful red-purple in the autumn. With small, purple flowers in spring. The hedge retains copper foliage throughout the winter before the delight of its fresh new growth each spring. The Beech hedge is suitable for windy sites and as a dense windbreak hedge. However it may not keep all its winter leaves if in very exposed positions, particularly coastal.
