Wild Service or Chequer Tree (Sorbus torminalis) Pack of 12 Cell Grown 20-40cm

Product Code:  SOTO12

From Only: £22.06 Ex VAT
Or £1.84 Per plant

Our RHS Wild Service Tree, or Chequer Tree (Sorbus torminalis) cell grown plants are extracted from their cells prior to despatch and are wrapped in protective packaging to ensure the root plug stays moist. The plants come with their root systems intact, whereas bare root plants can lose the fine feeding roots and root hairs when they are lifted. This means that cell grown plants can become more quickly established than bare root. Another advantage of cell grown Wild Service Tree is that it can be planted into warm soils when roots are active, outside the dormant period. As long as the roots are kept moist, cell grown plants can be planted throughout the year.

Benefits
• RHS cell grown Wild Service Tree hedging plants, under licence granted by the Royal Horticultural Society
• Extended planting season - they can be planted when you want to plant them as long as the roots are kept moist. You are not restricted to the bare root season
• Minimal root disturbance - root systems are supplied intact - with no loss of fine feeding roots and root hairs so once planted they can grow rapidly not suffering the shock that bare root plants will.
• Uniformity - these plants are more uniform.

NB: Our cell grown plants are sold in quantities of 12. Unfortunately we are unable deliver split bundles. We can offer a substantial volume discount. These plants are between 20-40cm high though the actual height may vary due to the growing season.

Complete Product Information for Wild Service or Chequer Tree (Sorbus torminalis) Pack of 12 Cell Grown 20-40cm
This RHS Premium Cell Grown Wild Service or Chequer Tree (Sorbus torminalis) is a deciduous spreading tree. The leaves are triangular, lobed green leaves turning purple-red in the autumn. The flowers are borne in white-yellow clusters.

It has maple-like leaves which are elegant and a glossy, shiny green in the summer. They provide fine bronze and yellow autumn tints.

The young leaves and twigs are woolly on their underside and there are clusters of white flowers with yellow centres in spring. The fruit is brown and rather undistinguished. The tree was called checkers and the fruit was once used to make a drink of this name.

The plants come with their root systems intact, whereas bare root plants can lose the tiny fine feeding roots and root hairs when they are lifted. This means that they will become more established quicker than bare root. They can also be planted into warm soils when roots are active, outside the dormant period. Whereas the bare root season ends between April to September, September, October, March April and May are ideal months for planting cell grown plants. In fact, unlike bare root, you can plant cell grown plants throughout the year as long as the roots are kept moist. That is why 60% of the world`s forestry trees are now cell grown!
