Benefits
• RHS cell grown wild cherry hedging plants, under licence granted by the Royal Horticultural Society
• Extended planting season - they can be planted when you want to plant them-- as long as the roots are kept moist. You are not restricted to the bare root season
• Minimal root disturbance - root systems are supplied intact - with no loss of fine feeding roots and root hairs-- so once planted they can grow rapidly-- not suffering the shock that bare root plants will.
• Uniformity - these plants are more uniform.
NB: Our cell grown plants are sold in quantities of 12. Unfortunately we are unable deliver split bundles. We can offer a substantial volume discount. These plants are between 20-40cm high though the actual height may vary due to the growing season.

Complete Product Information for Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) Pack of 12 Cell Grown 20-40cm
Our RHS Wild Cherry (Prunus avium) cell grown plants are extracted from their cells prior to despatch and are wrapped in protective packaging to ensure the root plug stays moist.
This means that cell grown plants can become more quickly established than bare root. Another advantage of cell grown Wild Cherry is that it can be planted into warm soils when roots are active, outside the dormant period. As long as the roots are kept moist, cell grown plants can be planted throughout the year.
The deciduous Wild Cherry or Sweet Cherry (Prunus avium) hedge is a native cherry species and a hedgerow favourite. In autumn, the shiny green hedge leaves turn a beautiful orange, pink or red before falling. The pure white flowers are produced in early spring at the same time as the new leaves. Wild cherry bark is smooth purplish-brown with prominent horizontal grey-brown lenticels on young trees, becoming thick dark blackish-brown and fissured on old trees. It can grow in any normal fertile soil, although it prefers none acid rich soils and likes the sun.
This hedge is loved by wildlife. It is hermaphroditic, and pollinated by bees. The bright red fruit turns dark purple when mature in midsummer. The fruits are readily eaten by birds and mammals, which digest the fruit flesh and disperse the seeds in their droppings. Some rodents, and a few birds, even crack open the stones to eat the kernel inside.
Wild Cherries have been eaten by humans for several thousands of years (although only when ripe/dark) and their stones have been found in deposits at bronze age settlements throughout Britain. Wild cherry has been highly prized for its timber.
