Our Royal Horticultural Society Small Leaved Lime (Tilia cordata) is a large native deciduous hedge of rounded habit, with alternately arranged heart-shaped leaves, glossy green above, pale yellow beneath. They also have tiny red-brown tufts of hairs under the vein-joints. The small hermaphrodite Ivory coloured, sweetly scented flowers are produced in clusters of five to eleven in early summer with a leafy yellow-green subtending bract. The flowers in summer are erect and dominate the foliage, and give rise to very small hairless fruit.
