Complete Product Information for Rose (Rosa glauca / Rubrifolia) 30/40cm Bare Root 2yr old (1+1) pack of 25
The Rose (Rosa Glauca/rubrifolia) is a, fast growing deciduous rose hedge that flowers for most of the summer, with slightly thorny deep purple stems and grey-purple, wrinkled foliage. It produces slightly-scented, large yellow-centred, pink flowers June to September, followed by large round, red berries in early autumn.

The Rosa Glauca/rubrifolia grow from their own roots and their suckers will eventually flower, naturally adding to the bulk of the hedge and making it very easy to maintain. Once the hedge has achieved the desired height and width, you can start pruning out older less productive shoots. You can be quite tough with Rosa Glauca/rubrifolia, as they will produce flowers from new growth as well as old. Infact you can prune the whole hedge down by about half if it has grown too tall.

The Rosa Glauca/rubrifolia is suitable for all positions and soils, thriving most in salty conditions, shade, full sun, and poor but well drained soil. It is tolerant to salt spray and semi-drought resistance, making it an ideal screen along surfaces. It may also sprawl a little, but trim in winter as necessary. For hedges 4-7ft (1.2m-2.1m), plant 12-24ins (30-60cm) apart. A good defensive hedge as the stems on this rose are incredibly spiny, densely covered in short, gray, needle-like thorns. Needing little maintenance, it makes a great hedge. A wonderful wildlife hedge, the hips last for a couple of months before being eaten by the birds.

Bare root hedging is a very low cost way of planting a hedge, but is only available to buy and plant when dormant (November-March). Orders ahead of 1st November will be stored to guarantee an early delivery date.
