Quercus robur or Common Oak as its commonly known is a large deciduous tree forming a broad crown of rounded leaves which turn reddish-brown in autumn and inconspicuous yellow-green catkins in spring followed by characteristic acorns. Plant in deep-- fertile-- well-drained soil-- it will tolerate lime. It will reach a height of 15m and a spread of 12m after 20-50 years. Ingestion may cause severe discomfort.
