The Pyrus calleryana Chanticlear is a relatively tall and thin spire like deciduous pear tree. Intriguingly, whilst the tree does produce a crop of small brown pears, it is so subtle that the tree is better known for the masses of creamy white blossoms present in early spring that cluster along the branches to form a dense habit. The Pyrus has deep green leaves oval at one end whilst pointed at the other. During autumn the leaves can take on a wide range of colours depending on the soil type it is situated in from darker shades of purple and red to orange and crimsons.

The Chanticlear is a wonderful ornamental pear tree that with little maintenance will develop into a thick, compact and dense tree perfect for screening or roadside planting when in groups or brilliant as a stand alone plant when there is just space for one. Whilst the tree doesn’t mind partial shade it will flower best in the full sun and flourish in the toughest of soils providing they are not too damp reaching a final height of around 10 metres.
