Our Royal Horticultural Society Purple Beech (Fagus sylvatica`Atropurpurea`) is a large and fast-growing deciduous native plant with a broad spreading crown; elliptic, yellow-green leaves in spring, turning rich russet-brown in autumn; and small, green flowers, followed by bristly fruits The pink/purple foliage darkens to a rich copper in summer before turning golden brown in autumn.

Beech is grown for its superb foliage of delicate fluttery leaves with wavy edges. It has simple beautiful green leaves, which shine with life in spring and turn a beautiful bronze and yellow color in the autumn. It likes sun or partial shade and does well on almost any well drained soil (acid or alkaline).

Trimming the hedge during towards the end of summer helps retain its leaves throughout winter. The hedge retains copper foliage throughout the winter before the delight of its fresh new growth each spring.

Bare root hedging is a very low cost way of planting a hedge, but is only available to buy and plant when dormant (November-March). Orders ahead of 1st November will be stored to guarantee an early delivery date.
