A small , robust tree the Prunus Umineko, is deciduous but provides interest throughout Spring, Summer and Autumn. The leaves are narrow, starting off pale green they change to a much darker green. During the Spring, single flowered blossoms of white appear all of the branches, creating a lovely effect. Once the Autumn months approach the tree makes a notable change, the leaves lose the green colour and change to reds, yellows and oranges. Due to its compact size it is a brilliant choice for an area with restricted space, it has been noted that it is able to survive well in urban areas. Awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 1928, it has been a popular choice of ornamental cherry for decades.
