Our Royal Horticultural Society Pear (Pyrus communis) is a species of pear native to Europe. (Pyrus communis) hedges are not quite as hardy as apples, but nearly so. They do however require some winter chilling to produce fruit. The fruit is edible, eaten raw, cooked and used to make perry.
