First introduced to the UK in 1908 from Western China, the Prunus Tibetica, (Tibetan Cherry) is one of the best trees for bark interest. The bark is a wonderful shining mahogany brown, which only gets better as the tree ages. The leaves are narrow and willow like, and during spring small white flowers adorn the branches. A small, fast growing tree Prunus Tibetica has a rounded habit and has a mature height of 5-10 meters, it will do best on well drained but moist soil, in a position where it will get full sun exposure. Due to the small habit of the tree it is suitable for smaller gardens. It was awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit in 2002.
