A tree grown not for it flowers but for the wonderful display its foliage provides. Liquidambar styraciflua Worplesdon has large star shaped leaves which are bright green from spring till autumn. The leaves turn from green to a wonderful mixture of purple, oranges and yellows during autumn. It has a rounded heavy crown and whilst it grows at a reasonably slow pace, it is not suitable for small gardens as its mature height is around 25 meters and it has a spread of 12 meters. A hardy tree it is best in full sun, in moist well drained soil where the best leaf colour will be seen.
