A medium size tree the Fraxinus ornus has dark green leaves throughout spring and summer, but during autumn it shows why it is a good choice to provide interest late on in the year. The leaves turn to a rich, dark purple, creating a wonderful display until they fall. Another highlight of this tree is that during the spring, masses of scented creamy white flowers form all over the branches. It has a pyramidal crown, and is fast growing. It reaches a mature height of 15 meters with a spread of the same distance. A hardy tree it is best suited to larger gardens, in a position where it will get full sun.
