First introduced to the UK by the Romans, the Black Mulberry has been a popular choice of tree for the royalty for many years. It is a slow growing, fully hardy tree which has a stately look. It is a more attractive choice than the White Mulberry, due to the branches which are low growing and as they mature develop a gnarled look. It is best in full sun, in well drained but moist soil, a long living tree it needs a clear area to accommodate for the spreading branches. Once mature it can reach a height of 12 meters and can have a spread of up to 15 meters.
