The Liquidambar Styraciflua (Sweet Gum) is tall and pyramidal deciduous tree. Grow the plant in soil that is moist but well drained, acidic and deeply cultivated. The tree will produce round, spiny fruits which can become messy. The leaves are star-shaped with 5-7 lobes, and will produce beautiful fall colours, which are purple, yellow or red. The fruit will ripen in the fall and hang on throughout the fall and early winter.
