Our RHS Premium Ilex aquifolium Handsworth New Silver is a compact, dense, evergreen tree or shrub with purple young shoots.Its dark-green, elliptic leaves are spined and broadly margined with white. In spring and summer it bears small, white flowers followed, in autumn, by bright-red berries. It suits most soils and conditions. It will reach a height of 10m and a spread of 8m when mature.
This Handsworth New Silver holly is a female variety, in order to produce berries, it is advised that a male plant is in a near vicinity to aid pollination. It is recommended that for every 5 female plants there is 1 male pollinator.
