Grey Sallow (Salix cinerea) Pack of 12 Cell Grown 20-40cm

Product Code:  SACI12

From Only: £18.39 Ex VAT
Or £1.53 Per plant

Our RHS Grey Sallow (Salix cinerea) cell grown plants are extracted from their cells prior to despatch and are wrapped in protective packaging to ensure the root plug stays moist. The plants come with their root systems intact, whereas bare root plants can lose the fine feeding roots and root hairs when they are lifted. This means that cell grown plants can become more quickly established than bare root. Another advantage of cell grown Grey Sallow is that it can be planted into warm soils when roots are active, outside the dormant period. As long as the roots are kept moist, cell grown plants can be planted throughout the year.

Benefits
• RHS cell grown Grey Willow hedging plants, under licence granted by the Royal Horticultural Society
• Extended planting season - they can be planted when you want to plant them-- as long as the roots are kept moist. You are not restricted to the bare root season
• Minimal root disturbance - root systems are supplied intact - with no loss of fine feeding roots and root hairs-- so once planted they can grow rapidly-- not suffering the shock that bare root plants will.
• Uniformity - these plants are more uniform.

NB: Our cell grown plants are sold in quantities of 12. Unfortunately we are unable deliver split bundles. We can offer a substantial volume discount. These plants are between 20-40cm high though the actual height may vary due to the growing season.

Complete Product Information for Grey Sallow (Salix cinerea) Pack of 12 Cell Grown 20-40cm
Our RHS Grey Sallow (Salix cinerea) cell grown plants are extracted from their cells prior to despatch and are wrapped in protective packaging to ensure the root plug stays moist.
The Grey Sallow (Salix Cinerea) is a large native deciduous hedge that can reach to 3 meters in height with stems up to 20cm. It is a rounded, bushy shape with multiple stems spreading out at, or near ground level. The bark is deeply fissured and greyish-brown in colour with grey-green branches, giving a splendid display .The abundant yellow flowers appear just before the leaves open in spring. They are about 1.5 cm. long, opening to reveal numerous white stamens tipped with yellow pollen. The female flowers are more upright and develop thicker pale green carpels which receive the pollen. The male catkins are silver at first, turning yellow when pollen is realised; female catkins are greenish-grey maturing in early summer.

Cell Grown Willow, Sallow and Osier hedges come with the benefit of container grown plants but the price is nearer the bare root price. The plants come with their root systems intact, whereas bare root plants can lose the tiny fine feeding roots and root hairs when they are lifted. This means that they will become more established quicker than bare root. They can also be planted into warm soils when roots are active, outside the dormant period. Whereas the bare root season ends between April to September, September, October, March April and May are ideal months for planting cell grown plants. Infact, unlike bare root, you can plant cell grown plants throughout the year as long as the roots are kept moist. That is why 60% of the worlds forestry trees are now cell grown!
