Complete Product Information for Golden & Green Leaves (Cornus alba 'Spaethii') 60/80cm Bare Root 1yr (C+1) pack of 25
The RHS Golden and Green Leaves (Cornus alba `Spaethii`) is a selected form of dogwood that is deciduous, with brilliant red winter shoots and green leaves with an attractive broad yellow margin. Flat heads of creamy-white followers appear in late spring or early summer, followed by white fruits. In autumn, the foliage turns soft orange, the falls, revealing the upright, deep red stems. The colour of these shiny stems is best of pruned really hard.

The RHS `Spaethii` is suitable for all positions and soils, in particular dense or wet conditions with full sun to part shade. Trim roots with a spade and promptly remove root suckers if colonial spread is undesired. Although pruning is not required, many gardeners choose to remove 20-25% of the oldest stems in early spring of each year to stimulate growth of new stems which will display the best red colour. As an alternative to annual pruning, some gardeners prune all stems close to the ground in early spring every 2-3 years to renew.

The RHS Spaethii has been awarded the RHS AGM (award of Garden Merit) Very effective if planted in clumps. For hedging plant 2ft (60cm) apart.

RHS bare root hedging is a very low cost way of planting a hedge, but is only available to buy and plant when dormant (November-March). Orders ahead of 1st November will be stored to guarantee an early delivery date.
