Our Royal Horticultural Society Goat/Pussy Willow (Salix caprea) hedge is common in hedgerows throughout Britain. A native deciduous hedge, it has greyish leaves and large striking golden male and silver female catkins which appear in late March before foliage emerges. Unlike other willows, this hedge can be planted in dry ground.

The Goat or Pussy Willow Hedge is common in hedgerows throughout Britain. A native deciduous hedge, it has greyish leaves and large striking golden male and silver female catkins which appear in late March before foliage emerges.

Unlike other willows, this hedge can be planted in dry ground, although it does not like complete shade. It can be planted in coastal areas. Many people mix it with dogwood to make a beautiful hedge.

RHS bare root willow hedging is a very low cost way of planting a hedge, but is only available to buy and plant when dormant (November-March). Orders ahead of 1st November will be stored to guarantee an early delivery date.
