Riccartonii is an upright-- mid-sized-- deciduous shrub with small-- mid-green leaves. In summer and autumn it bears small-- single flowers with crimson tube and sepals-- and violet-purple petals. It suits well drained soils in sunny position. This plant is also good for hedging and will reach a height of 2.5m and a spread of 1.5m after 5-10 years. Plant outdoors in moist-- fertile soil. Plant the base of the stem 5cm below the soil surface and provide a deep winter mulch and shelter from cold drying winds.
