The Fraxinus Excelsior has dark green leaves and large pendent fruit clusters in autumn. The leaves that appear in spring are delicate leaflets usually with nine to eleven oval leaflets, arrange in pairs with an odd one at the end. From the black woolly buds, male or female flowers develop. This sometimes occurs on the same plant, however some plants which are male one year are female the next year. The female plants develop into fruits often called “ash keys” that are stiff sprays of bunches of keys.
