The Ribes `King Edward VII` is suitable for any soil, in particular prefers moisture and will perform in any position full or partial sun or even light shade. It performs better as a hedge, if the flowering stems are cut back to a strong pair of buds immediately after flowering, but it can also be pruned in late summer. Trim after flowering and again in August. For hedges 3-5ft (0.9m-1.5), plant 2ft (60cm) apart.

Flowering currant has no serious insect or disease problems. A potential disease could be leaf spot and an insect could be aphids.

RHS are root hedging is a very low cost way of planting a hedge, but is only available to buy and plant when dormant (November-March). Orders ahead of 1st November will be stored to guarantee an early delivery date.
