Fagus sylvatica 'Dawyck Purple' is a very attractive, upright choice form of the common beech, the young foliage is red in spring, slowly turning to a deep, rich purple that looks truly wonderful, during the autumn they change again to brown. Its compact habit makes it a good choice for any garden as it will reach a height and spread of just 10x3 meters in 20 years. It is best suited to a position in full sun or partial shade and in moist but well drain soil. It will tolerate all but the harshest of soil conditions.
