Our Economy Native Mixed Wildlife Hedging Mix consists of 50% Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) but also includes a mix of 12.5% Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), 12.5% Hazel (Corylus avellana), 12.5% Common Dogwood, (Cornus sanguinea), 12.5% Field Maple (Acer campestre).
The Economy mix is a great way to use Native Hedging to create a cost effective hedging, which is not only wildlife friendly, but also provides much interest, from the sloe berries produced by the Blackthorn to the colourful red stems of the Dogwood in winter.
It is recommended to use 3 plants per metre for a single row hedge, or 4 plants per metre in a staggered row.
The additional benefit of using potted hedging, is that it can be planted any time of the year providing that they are kept well watered. The Economy mix is suitable for all soil types.
