Product Code:  SAAU120
Out of Season - Next crop available Autumn 2012

From Only: £89.99 Ex VAT
Or £0.75 Per plant

Our RHS Eared Willow (Salix aurita) cell grown plants are extracted from their cells prior to despatch and are wrapped in protective packaging to ensure the root plug stays moist. The plants come with their root systems intact, whereas bare root plants can lose the fine feeding roots and root hairs when they are lifted. This means that cell grown plants can become more quickly established than bare root. Another advantage of cell grown Eared Willow is that it can be planted into warm soils when roots are active, outside the dormant period. As long as the roots are kept moist, cell grown plants can be planted throughout the year.

Benefits

• Extended planting season - they can be planted when you want to plant them-- as long as the roots are kept moist. You are not restricted to the bare root season
• Minimal root disturbance - root systems are supplied intact - with no loss of fine feeding roots and root hairs-- so once planted they can grow rapidly-- not suffering the shock that bare root plants will.
• Uniformity - these plants are more uniform.

Complete Product Information for Eared Willow (Salix Aurita) Pack of 120 Cell Grown 20-50cm
This RHS Premium Cell Grown Eared or Sallow Willow(Salix Aurita) a 2.5 m high shrub, distinguished from similar by its reddish stalks and young twigs. It will succeed in most soils, including wet, ill-drained or intermittently flooded soils and nutritionally poor soils. The plant prefers acid and neutral soils.and to be in a sunny position. Thriving in the most adverse conditions, it is a useful plant for populating dry barren sites.

It is in flower in April, and the seeds ripen from May to June. The flowers are dioecious (individual flowers are either male or female, but only one sex is to be found on any one plant so both male and female plants must be grown if seed is required) and although the flowers are produced in catkins early in the year, they are pollinated by bees and other insects rather than by the wind.
