CYTISUS x praecox is a variety of Broom - a tall and vigorous species reaching 1.8-2.5m in height. Bright pea-like cream-yellow flowers appear in late spring and early summer. The black seed pods may be abundant-- ripening in mid-summer and scattering their seed with a sharp cracking sound in hot dry weather. In cooler areas of some southern hemisphere countries it has become a troublesome weed.
A hardy evergreen shrub. Best in sun in moist-- but well drained soil. Can be pruned after flowering to maintain shape.
