Colorado spruce (Picea pungens Glauca) Pack of 12 Cell Grown 15-30cm

Product Code:  PIPU12

From Only: £18.39 Ex VAT
Or £1.53 Per Plant

Our Colorado Spruce (Picea pungens Glauca) cell grown plants are extracted from their cells prior to despatch and are wrapped in protective packaging to ensure the root plug stays moist. The plants come with their root systems intact, whereas bare root plants can lose the fine feeding roots and root hairs when they are lifted. This means that cell grown plants can become more quickly established than bare root. Another advantage of cell grown Colorado Spruce is that it can be planted into warm soils when roots are active, outside the dormant period. As long as the roots are kept moist, cell grown plants can be planted throughout the year.

Complete Product Information for Colorado spruce (Picea pungens Glauca) Pack of 12 Cell Grown 15-30cm
This Premium Cell Grown Colorado spruce (Picea pungens Glauca) is a medium sized tree with a bark that develops thick grey scales with age and new stems or twigs start green, transforming to a light brown with an orange cast.

The needles are 3cm long, very stiff and are covered in a silvery glaucous wax that gives the tree its distinctive blue colour. The needles are uniformly distributed and curve slightly upwards; the overall effect makes these branches very prickly to handle.

Green cylindrical cones (7-7.5cm long) are produced and turn to a pale brown as they ripen.

The plants come with their root systems intact, whereas bare root plants can lose the tiny fine feeding roots and root hairs when they are lifted. This means that they will become more established quicker than bare root.

Cell grown plants can also be planted into warm soils when roots are active, outside the dormant period. Whereas the bare root season ends between April to September, September, October, March April and May are ideal months for planting cell grown plants. In fact, unlike bare root, you can plant cell grown plants throughout the year as long as the roots are kept moist. That is why 60% of the worldÆs forestry trees are now cell grown!
