This RHS Premium Cell Grown Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica) is a large, dense, native deciduous shrub or small tree with spiny branches, which are attractive in autumn when laden with masses of shining red fruits that mature to black.
The yellowish-green flowers borne in May attract Brimstone butterflies. Its glossy dark green leaves turn yellow in autumn.

•Cultivate: They will grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil with full sun or partial-shade in hot areas. You can propagate the deciduous species from seeds and the evergreen species from cuttings in the summer.

•Extended planting season - they can be planted when you want to plant them, as long as the roots are kept moist. You are not restricted to the bare root season
