Common Name: Box
Our Royal Horticultural Society Box (Buxus sempervirens) is a slow growing hardy native evergreen hedging plant with fragrant foliage. Boxwood flowers are yellow appearing in late spring. The very dense growth habit and small, glossy dark leaves of the box make it ideal for low formal hedging. It is suitable in any soil, in particular well drained in partial shade. For Hedging, plant young plants just below the nursery soil mark to encourage growth from the base.
RHS bare root hedging is a very low cost way of planting a hedge, but is only available to buy and plant when dormant (November-March). Orders ahead of 1st November will be stored to guarantee an early delivery date. It should be trimmed in midsummer; this helps retain its leaves throughout winter.
