The Betula pendula Tristis is a beautiful weeping birch with graceful, slender, drooping branches. Although it has a weeping habit it maintains a central leader, and can grow up to mature heights of 20m. The bark is an attractive bright white, which is particularly eye catching in the winter when the tree is leafless. The delicate triangular leaves are green in summer and change to a vibrant yellow in autumn. Green catkins are also produced in spring.
Prefers to be planted in full sun or partial shade, and does best in moist but well drained soil.
