The Betula Pendula is a very popular landscape tree which is grown for its weeping habit and graceful form. The foliage can range from a rich green to dark red or reddish-green. The bark on the trunk is white marked with black and it makes a dramatic display against a dark evergreen background. All birches are prone to aphids, bronze birch borers and birch leaf-miners. They are not drought-tolerant and will perform best with a regular watering and feeding. The glossy leaves are about 6cms long with a diamond shaped and a tapered point, that will turn yellow in the autumn.
