The Betula nigra, also known as the 'River Birch' is an exceptionally beautiful tree. It has striking papery, peeling bark, which is shades of orange and cinammon. The bark is especially eye catching in the winter when the tree is leafless. The foliage is small and green in the summer months, turning to a vivid yellow during the autumn.

Makes an excellent tree for a medium sized garden, and is suitable for wet soils. Best planted in full sun or partial shade.
