Berberis ottawensis Superba is a mid-sized deciduous shrub with deep red-purple leaves that turn brighter red in autumn. It bears small, yellow flowers and has red berries in autumn. Excellent for flower arranging. Currently 40 -60cm tall.
Prune hard in March for long sprays of purple foliage. This plant is toxic and may cause mild stomach upset if ingested. Plant in any soil in a sunny or partially shaded position - preferably sunny for best fruits and autumn colour. Ideal for low maintenance hedging, beds and borders or coastal areas.
