Preferred common name: Green Beech
Our range of Common Beech (Fagus sylvatica) offers an excellent value 1 year old seedling that has been undercut and then grown in situ for a further year. This gives the plant a slimmer and straighter growth habit which is not quite as stocky or bushy as our RHS Beech hedging bare root plants, but still offers the same exceptional quality.
Beech (Fagus sylvatica) is a large and fast-growing deciduous native plant with a broad spreading crown; elliptic, yellow-green leaves in spring, turning rich russet-brown in autumn; and small, green flowers, followed by bristly fruits. Beech is grown for its superb foliage of delicate fluttery leaves with wavy edges. It has simple beautiful green leaves, which shine with life in spring and turn a beautiful bronze and yellow color in the autumn. It likes sun or partial shade and does well on almost any well drained soil (acid or alkaline).
