Complete Product Information for Bare Root Wildlife Friendly Hedging Tree Mix - 150/175cm 3 Year Old - Pack of 4
Mountain Ash / Rowan Tree:
A wildlife haven, it produces lovely white flowers in late spring and large bunches of dark red berries, 1cm across, in autumn. The attractive Mountain Ash (Sorbus aucuparia) leaves change from medium green into a yellow orange adding colour to your garden.

Hornbeam Tree:
Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) trees are a wildlife haven. The fruit provide autumn food for wildlife. Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) trees provide food for moth caterpillars including the Small White Wave, Pale November , Nut Tree Tussock, and Copper Underwing. Hawfinches eat the seed in autumn and winter. Hares, rabbits and field mice love the leaf shoots and foliage. Each tree supports around 28 species of wildlife.
A very attractive deciduous plant with beautiful autumn colouring.

Wild Cherry Tree:
This tree is loved by wildlife. It is hermaphroditic, and pollinated by bees. The bright red fruit turns dark purple when mature in midsummer. The fruits are readily eaten by birds and mammals, which digest the fruit flesh and disperse the seeds in their droppings. Some rodents, and a few birds, even crack open the stones to eat the kernel inside. Wild Cherries have been eaten by humans for several thousands of years (although only when ripe/dark) and their stones have been found in deposits at bronze age settlements throughout Britain. Wild cherry has been highly prized for its timber.

Common Alder:
Alnus Glutinosa or Common Alder as its commonly known is particularly good in costal positions, but also sun or semi shade and due to its fast growth when young, it can be used to form an effective windbreak to protect other plants. It grows in all conditions of soil, but best in moist or even wet soil and will tolerate prolonged periods of standing in water. The Common Alder is also highly useful for as a Nitrogen Fixation plant, helping the soil it is planted in, to become rich and fertile.
