Complete Product Information for Bare Root Ornamental Hedging Tree Mix - 150/175cm 1/2/3 Year Old - Pack of 4
Wild Cherry Tree:
This tree is loved by wildlife. It is hermaphroditic, and pollinated by bees. The bright red fruit turns dark purple when mature in midsummer. The fruits are readily eaten by birds and mammals, which digest the fruit flesh and disperse the seeds in their droppings. Some rodents, and a few birds, even crack open the stones to eat the kernel inside. Wild Cherries have been eaten by humans for several thousands of years (although only when ripe/dark) and their stones have been found in deposits at bronze age settlements throughout Britain. Wild cherry has been highly prized for its timber.

Silver Birch:
Betula pendula or more commonly known as Silver Birch is suitable for all positions and soils, in particular an sheltered sight in a shaded position. Birch trees are excellent for use on moist ground, and also provide a food source for wildlife with the small brown fruits produced in summer time. The most notable aspect of the Silver Birch is its spectacular white stem, which is more prolific as the tree ages.

White Poplar:
Populus Alba or more commonly known as White Poplar has a smooth and greenish-white to greyish-white bark with characteristic diamond-shaped dark marks on young trees. The young leaves are covered with whitish-grey down, including the small buds. The leaves are long, five-lobed, with a thick covering of white scurfy down on both sides but thicker underneath; this layer wears off the upper side but not the lower, which stays white until autumn leaf fall.

Norway Maple:
The Acer Platanoides tree which is more commonly known as Norway Maple is suitable for any soil or condition, in particular well drained or moist soil in exposed/windy areas or coastal areas. The Norway Maple is distinguished by its larger leaves with pointed, lobes. The tree tends to leaf out earlier than most maples and holds its leaves somewhat longer in autumn. The foliage turns wonderful shades of golden yellow in autumn.
