Also known as the Serviceberry or June Berry, the Amelanchier tree is native to North America and is one of the first trees to blossom in the Spring with stunning white flowers sometimes referred to as the `Last Snow`.
Native Americans believed that when the Amelanchier blooms, it is the most appropriate time to intern the dead or hold a memorial service for lost loved ones.
The Amelanchier produces deep blue june berries in the late spring which are often eaten by robins. However, if you are fortunate enough to beat the robins to the harvest, then the berries can be eaten straight from the tree or made into delicious jams and jellies with a pear-type flavour. However, the fruits do not last long and should be picked as soon as they are ripe!
The Amelanchier Gift Tree is a beautiful gift for any occassion.
