The Acer rubrum is a fast growing, open crown, rounded deciduous tree. This tree is one that provides great interest throughout the year illustrating the colourful changes the trees goes through as the seasons pass. Its new foliage displays bright red colours whilst these fade away into a darker green in summer followed by an outstanding orange to red colour through the autumn months. The tree is also notable for its red flowers growing off red branches and changes in the bark as the tree matures from a smooth light greyish bark into a darker deeply ridged one.
