This beautiful Acer rubrum, or Red Acer, makes a great ornamental specimen. The foliage is deeply lobed - in summer it is green with a silvery back, changing to a deep red during the autumn months. It produces tiny red flowers from April to May, followed by small red berries.
It has an attractive round headed shape, and although hardy, prefers sheltered spots out of cold winds and late frosts. Plant in full sun or partial shade and in well drained neutral to acid soil.
