Very similar in nature to the Green Beech plant, as they retain their rustic brown foliage through the winter months. The leaves in spring and summer are lime-green/green and are of a crinkled nature. Hornbeam produces lime green catkins in spring and fruit in the winter months which is particularly attractive for wildlife. The average growth for a Hornbeam hedge ranges between 30 and 60cm per year depending on the planting conditions. Hornbeam will grow well in heavy wet sites as well as in a shaded position.
Hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus) has been awarded an RHS Award of Garden Merit.
