The Flowering Currant (Ribes 'King Edward VII') is colourful deciduous shrub, growing to 4m tall which makes it perfect for use as a hedging plant. Flowers are produced in the early spring, followed by a dark purple berry fruit which is edible but leaves a bitter taste.
The Flowering Currant hedge can be superb as a single species flowering hedge, but also as a component in a mixed hedge. The dark-red flowers appear before the leaves in spring, displaying a mass of very colourful long intense crimson flowers from late March to May, often smothering the plant.
