This is a strong growing evergreen shrub. It forms a big mound with glistening small rounded green leaves. There are small scarlet tubular flowers, plentifully borne, in June. The leaves are slightly sticky to the touch with a sweet resinous scent. It makes a good hedge for coastal regions and can stand close clipping, though it is also pleasing when grown with a degree of informality.
