The Spindle Tree (Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald 'n' Gold') comes from the Greek for “lucky”, it is an excellent dwarf evergreen plant, with bright variegated green and gold foliage. The leaves are edged in gold and turn pink/red during cold weather giving a winter colour. As it is very compact, it is relatively slow growing and therefore easy to maintain once it reaches it full height. However to encourage growth, trim the new shoots in May and neaten up in late summer, cut out any plain green leaves back to the original branch.
