The Euonymus (Euonymus fortunei 'Emerald Gaiety') comes from the Greek for “lucky”; it is an excellent dwarf evergreen plant, with bright variegated green and gold foliage that rarely bares flowers. The leaves are edged in gold with an irregular white margin and turn pink/red during cold weather giving a winter colour. As it is very compact, it is relatively slow growing and therefore easy to maintain once it reaches it full height. However to encourage growth, trim the new shoots in May and neaten up in late summer, any un-variegated growth should be trimmed back to the original stem.
